Caramel Makhanas aka Fox-nuts

All of us love a tub of popcorn while watching late night movies. If that popcorn happens to be caramel popcorn , I don't think any of us will ever complain. The more the better right. But what if you have another alternative to explore which is just as good if not better. Yes, it's none other than caramel fox-nuts and it is takes 5 - 10 mins to put together, unbelievable right. Give it a try to find out for yourself :)


Preparation


  • Dry roast about 2 cups of makhanas . In microwave it takes 45 secs to roast them. if you want to roast in a pan , you can probably roast much more in about 3-5 minutes. Heat the pan to medium heat , put the makhanas and keep moving the makhanas to avoid it from burning. Then turn off the heat and let it sit for 4-5 minutes while we prepare our caramel sauce.

  • In a sauce pan add 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil and heat it on low flame for 1 minute

  • Now raise the heat to medium and add about 70 grams of jaggary powder or brown sugar and keep stirring for another 2- 3 mins to allow the caramelization of sugar . The consistency of the sauce should be that the oil and jaggary are well combined

  • Immediately pour this over the makhanas and mix it well before it cools down properly to allow and even coating of this sauce and that's pretty much it.
