I have to admit that i have a huge appetite for savory snacks and i found myself always reaching for some packed and store-bought snacks that would inevitably have a very high amount of unhealthy fats. I had to figure out a smart way of enjoying some tea time savory snacks without the trans fat overload. Home made Chivda was the perfect option for me. This snacks takes a total of 12- 15 minutes to put together and hardly 2 teaspoons of oil.

Preparation time : 15 mins

Preparation:

1. In a pan , roast about 1 cup of thin Poha (or rice flakes ) for 8-10 minutes on medium heat , constantly stirring so that it does not get burnt. Poha should be done when it shrivels up and stinks in size and becomes toasty/ crispy. Be sure to continuously stir the contents to avoid burning of the flakes

2. In a pan add 2 teaspoons of oil on low heat and shallow fry a handful of peanuts and dry fruits for 1 minute and remove them from the oil.

3. In the same pan lightly toast some raisins for 30 seconds and remove them from heat

4. Then add some curry leaves and some 2-3 whole red chilli, chana daal (or roasted Bengal gram) and finally add a pinch of turmeric and slightly roast for 30 secs.

5. Finally add shredded coconuts in the oil and toast it for 10 seconds

5. Finally add Poha and all the toasted nuts and raisins and 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon sugar and churn the entire mix for 2 minutes to ensure everything is well coated with the turmeric.

And that is all there is to it. It is so much fun to prepare and great to enjoy anytime.

Never gets old :)
